Emergency COA Granted to Map South Carolina Landfill

In mid-February, through our work with Roboticists Without Borders, PrecisionHawk was issued an emergency COA by the FAA to conduct an aerial survey over the Bennett Industrial Landfill in Lockhart, SC.

Toxic particulates were being released into the air, including asbestos and other potentially harmful chemicals, so it was crucial that the Environmental Protection Agency assess the situation quickly.

However, the EPA could not obtain an accurate volumetric survey of the area due to the active fire, and the ground was particularly unsafe for surveyors who would need to be exposed to the site for long periods of time.

PrecisionHawk performed a volumetric analysis of the area and used the data to recreate the entire landfill zone, which then enabled the EPA to compare it with initial surveys to determine the extent of damage.
